[Starcursed Voidstrider]

The void elves (or ren'dorei, for 'Children of the Void' in Thalassian)[1] are one of the playable Allianceallied races in World of Warcraft, introduced at the end of Legion. Once blood elves, they succumbed to void corruption after an expedition exploring new magics went awry. Alleria Windrunner, who had recently learned to harness the shadow and use it for the good of Azeroth, saved these wayward elves by teaching them control. In return, they now serve the Alliance.

Void elves begin in Telogrus Rift before reporting to their faction's embassy (much like all other allied races). Their choice of mount is the voidstrider, a shadow-infused hawkstrider. The chosen language of void elves is Thalassian, just like their non-void corrupted kin, but they are also able to speak Common.

Race preview

Many have sought to harness the corruptive magic of the Void. Most who tried have fallen into madness. Determined to use this power for the good of Azeroth, Alleria Windrunner is the first mortal to succeed at defying the shadow's whispers. Coming to the aid of a group of her kin who nearly gave in to the darkness, Alleria has vowed to train these Void Elves to control the shadows within them and pledge their newfound powers to the Alliance.[2]

Creation screen description

Seeking to harness the corruptive magic of the Void, these outcast elves endured an unexpected transformation. They are determined to master their newfound powers and resist the whispers eager to lure them into madness.

Opening cutscene

Alleria Windrunner:The Void. A force of infinite hunger. Its whispers have broken the will of dragons... and lured even the titans' own children into madness. Sages and scholars fear the Void. But we understand a truth they do not. That the Void is a power to be harnessed... to be bent by a will strong enough to command it. The Void has shaped us... changed us. But you will become its master. Wield the shadows as a weapon to save our world... and defend the Alliance!

Appearance

Void elves have extremely pale skin, blue eyes, and hair with varying shades of purple and blue - sometimes with tentacle-shaped dreadlocks. On occasion in combat they fully embrace the Void, shrouding their entire bodies in purple shadow magic. Alleria is the only elf shown to be able to use this transformation at will.

Unlocking

In order to unlock the ability to play as void elves, players need to have completed the achievement [You Are Now Prepared!] and have a level 110 Alliance character. These requirements are account-wide in that players do not have to earn all requirements on the same character or even an Alliance character to unlock.

Once these requirements are met, players must then complete the following recruitment questline:

  1. [110] The Ghostlands
  2. [110] Telogrus Rift

  • In the patch 7.3.5 PTR, the race's description was as such: 'Many have sought to harness the corruptive magic of the Void. Most who tried have fallen into madness. Determined to use this power for the good of Azeroth, Alleria Windrunner is the first mortal to succeed at defying the shadow's whispers. Coming to the aid of a group of her kin who nearly gave in to the darkness, Alleria has vowed to train these void elves to control the shadows within them and pledge their newfound powers to the Alliance.'
  • Void elves speak in a thick British accent.
  • Class and profession trainers in the Cathedral of Light are a little uneasy towards the void elves if one of them walks inside.

Class Mounts

Index

Each class gets at least one special mount that no other class can use. Paladins and warlocks earn their first class mounts much earlier than most (level 20) and then another at level 40. Death knights and demon hunters earn theirs at levels appropriate for their much higher starting levels.

Order Hall Mounts (Broken Isles)

All classes can earn a special mount after completing completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore - Breaching the Tomb, which culminates in a small scenario. Some of these mounts change colour depending on the player's current class specialization, others do not. Paladins, warlocks, hunters, and rogues may purchase additional colour variations of their mount from a vendor in their Order Hall once they have obtained their first (in Legion these were tied to levelling the artifacts of different specs, but that restriction was removed in Battle for Azeroth). Warlocks also gain an extra variant from defeating a world boss on the Broken Shore.

Paladin

Paladins are the only class where their base mounts (level 20 and 40) are specific to race as well as class. They're also the only class to be offered a special mount at the Argent Tournament. At level 110 paladins may earn the Highlord's Golden Charger after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. They may subsequently purchase additional colours from their Order Hall quartermaster.

Warlock

Warlocks earn their base class mounts at level 20 and 40. These felsteeds have orange flames by default, but turn green-yellow if the warlock is using The Codex of Xerrath. At level 110 warlocks may purchase the Netherlord's Chaotic Wrathsteed after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. They may subsequently purchase an orange variant from their Order Hall quartermaster, and a purple variant after defeating a boss on the Broken Shore.

Void Elves

Death Knight

Death Knights earn their base class mount at level 55 and then a flying mount at level 60. At level 110 death knights may earn the Deathlord's Vilebrood Vanquisher after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. This mount changes colours depending on the death knight's current specialization.

Flying

Demon Hunter

Demon Hunters earn their base class mount at level 100. At level 110 they may earn the Slayer's Felbroken Shrieker after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore.

Hunter

Void Ethereal

At level 110 hunters may earn the Huntmaster's Loyal Wolfhawk after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. They may subsequently purchase two additional colours from their Order Hall quartermaster.

Mage

At level 110 mages may earn the Archmage's Prismatic Disc after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. This disc changes colours depending on the mage's current specialization.

Monk

At level 110 monks may earn Ban-Lu, Grandmaster's Companion after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore.

Priest

Void Elf Flying Mounts

At level 110 priests may earn the High Priest's Lightsworn Seeker after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. This mount changes colours depending on the priest's current specialization.

Rogue

At level 110 rogues may earn the Shadowblade's Murderous Omen after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. They may subsequently purchase additional colours from their Order Hall quartermaster.

Shaman

At level 110 shaman may earn the Farseer's Raging Tempest after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. This mount changes colours (to different elements) depending on the shaman's current specialization.

Warrior

Ranger

At level 110 warriors may earn the Battlelord's Bloodthirsty War Wyrm after completing the Legionfall campaign on the Broken Shore. This mount changes colours depending on the warrior's current specialization.
